Donald Bulea – Founding Board Member & Chair
Doni is an attorney around town, and he has been a volunteer at Brite every year. He earned his law degree here in town at Cleveland State University’s Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, and joined the Brite Winter team in 2012 to make sure that we have all our i’s and t’s, dotted and crossed.
Lauren Kotmel – Vice Chair
Lauren is a community engagement manager for a Silicon Valley tech company, bringing development and public affairs/marketing expertise to Brite. Lauren started as a Brite volunteer years ago and you have likely bumped into her around town for a show. She also proudly serves on the Selection Committee for The Cleveland International Film Festival and Women’s Council of Cleveland Museum of Art.
Emily Hornack – Co-Founder & Secretary
Emily is a founding member of the Brite Winter team. She was born and raised in Cleveland, left for a while, then came back home to stay. She’s a graduate of Case Western Reserve University and works at MetroHealth. She also serves on the Board of Choral Arts Cleveland and the Planning Committee for the Heights Music Hop.
Jimmy Harris – Co-Founder
Jimmy is a founding member of the Brite Winter team and got his Ph.D. at Case Western Reserve University. He is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, but returns to Cleveland any chance he gets for Brite-related business.
Nicole’s work spans music production, talent acquisition & event logistics, VIP sales, art shows and even documentaries. Her resume includes work for Live Nation, House of Blues, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Fuse TV, HBO, 50/50 Art Show, Red Bull, Gravity Games, Derek Hess, Think Media, Salerno Restaurant Group, Line by Line Productions, One Foot Productions and Disney. She co-owns Six, an event and marketing production company. Nicole is an avid vinyl and art collector who lives in Ohio City with her dog Charlie.
Ryan’s background involves economic development for Downtown Cleveland Alliance where he worked with the city, local real-estate agencies, and the regional chamber of commerce to attract businesses to Cleveland’s Central Business District. Ryan is now a Cleveland-based folksinger and currently operates one of Cleveland’s DIY venues for monthly concerts.
Krista, born and raised in Cleveland, moved to New York City to pursue her career in television production. After 15 years, Krista realized she needed to boomerang back to (the greatest city) Cleveland. Krista is currently producing events and managing marketing for a Cleveland organization. Krista found Brite still living in NYC and knew she would somehow be involved. When Krista finally made the move, she reached out and Brite welcomed her with very open arms. Krista’s Brite resume includes volunteer, Co-Volunteer Coordinator, and Development Committee member.
Debby is the Marketing & Media Director for the Cleveland International Film Festival and has been a Brite Winter fan since the get-go. Most weekends you can find her exploring the city with her family, taking in a show, or hiking in the Cleveland Metroparks. She believes in a strong arts community and loves any opportunity to show off Cleveland’s awesomeness.
Morgan is a proud Cleveland native who is passionate about art, music, and enriching the Cleveland community. She currently works as a Social Media Coordinator for a major hotel chain. Morgan came into the Brite Winter scene as a marketing committee member in 2015, spearheading social media efforts and lending a hand in the community art workshops. This year she’s stepping up her game by leading the marketing committee and serving on the programming committee.

Brian Horsburgh – Executive Director
Brian was named Brite Cleveland’s first Executive Director in October, 2014. He was born and raised in Cleveland and has worked with the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission, SPIRE Institute, the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver and the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Brian graduated from the University of Denver and currently serves on Hawken School’s Alumni Board and the ad-hoc committee of Cleveland Leadership Center’s (i)Cleveland program. He resides in Cleveland’s Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood.
Justin Markert – Music Director
Justin is new to the Brite team but is by no means new to the Cleveland music community. He’s booked music at venues all over town as well as a handful of area music festivals. Justin is also the co-owner of Cellar Door Cleveland, and resides in Cleveland Heights.
Emily Appelbaum – Arts Director
Emily graduated from Yale University with a degree in architecture and is newly returned to Cleveland from the San Francisco Bay Area, where she helped make places awesome through collaborative design, large-scale public art, earthshaking events and outreach to underserved communities. She also wrote, edited and designed for the late, great San Francisco Bay Guardian, and is currently working as Program Director at Ingenuity Cleveland.
In addition to our board, we owe a big thanks to our volunteer committee members for their hard work in the areas of music & art programming, marketing, development and volunteer management.
