Hooked Like Helen
Main Stage - 7:55 p.m.
Nikki and Jon Stipp created Hooked Like Helen and became sought after by music supervisors for E!, MTV, Netflix and more. The band's ballad, "Liar" quite literally inspired the script for the film "High Strung: Free Dance” (Jane Seymour) which featured the song in a pivotal dance sequence. Nikki custom scored music for 9 scenes across the 3-time Emmy-winning docu-series “CHEER”, and continues to provide music for upcoming titles through BMG.
Hooked Like Helen has developed a reputation as an awe-inspiring live act. The band will be playing as 1st of 4 in support of Scott Stapp of Creed, Poppy, and Dead Poet Society for KLAQ Rocks The Park on October 4th at Southwest University Park Stadium in El Paso, TX. HLH recently completed two national tours, opened for Jewel, Taylor Hicks, Blood, Sweat & Tears, and played as direct support for PVRIS at Sandusky Pride.
Hooked Like Helen released a 7 track rock EP Promise Me You’ll Run last fall, co-produced by K Thrash (Jelly Roll, MGK), to rave reviews. Singles from the EP have been playlisted on Apple Music’s official New in Rock and New in Alternative, and are supported by radio stations across the nation.
Hooked Like Helen is cultivating a community of healing. On March 13th, they performed music and led a Q&A on mental health at San Diego State University for a lecture hall filled with Psych students. This event will be the first of many that HLH will hold at college campuses across the nation - co-created by the band and called a Concert & Convo.
Through dark lyrical themes of childhood trauma and substance abuse, HLH crafts relatable sing-along anthems of hope and resilience. “Sleepwalker” - a song for those struggling with addiction - is a fan favorite and has been featured on Loudwire Nights with Chuck Armstrong. Nikki is 12 years sober, and uses her platform to illuminate a path of survival.
