Matt Moody

Transient troubadour Matt Moody has run the gamut a few times over and still has gas in the tank. Reared from Cleveland and walking a tightrope between genre’s since he began, his styles converge somewhere in the middle of rust belt grit, western motifs and vulnerable melancholia; if 90’s pop rock and americana had a bastard child steeped in blues and soul. Prolific, elusive and hard to define, Moody’s career thus far has landed him on stages high and low; major festivals (Bonnaroo 2022 as a member of Wax Owls) , legendary venues (Douglas Corner Cafe, Hotel Cafe), local joints (Grog Shop, Beachland Ballroom & Tavern), coffee shops, lofty vineyards, beer soaked bars and everything in between. Having released two solo full-lengths and a split EP with production duo Seacoast, Moody has kept busy across the midwest, California and Tennessee; co-writing with some major players along the way like Steve Cropper and Karen Staley, though most of his releases are of a singular vision.
The Misery County Line is the third full-length from Matt, set to release October 10th, 2025. Raw, volatile, tender, a touch humorous and fully uncensored; Misery teeters back and forth between anguish, aspiration and acceptance of the reality of things, personal, cultural and otherwise. Tinged with a sonic quality and sincerity all it’s own, the album breaches ideas of what’s labeled as “americana” these days and punches through with an iron-fist on tracks like Thanks for Asking and Doesn’t Mean a Thing - reminiscent of Moody’s upbringing on grunge and rock n’ roll. Songs like Brick Wall, Cowboys and Let’s Get F*cked Up (And Go Have Some Fun) rejuvenate the more unconventional side of the broad scope we call “American Music”, conjuring echoes of Elliot Smith and Daniel Johnston. Sparsely adorned with anxious electric guitars, somber slide parts and not much else, Misery is sort of a far-cry from Moody’s previous release, Still a Kid in a Painted Sky, which was lushly decorated and produced with a whole arsenal of instruments. Recorded mostly in Santa Ynez at Joel Jacks’ Studio, Matt’s vision with The Misery County Line was to present something true to the sounds he was making out in California with drummer Stuart Blackie and bassist Nathan Tao; an epithet of the time spent living, writing and performing in Los Angeles and throughout the coast of California. “All I want, is to look through God and see the world. As it is, as I am, as you were” Moody drones on the closing track Through Generations; a testament to his philosophy on creating this record and life in general.
From Cleveland to LA to Nashville, Matt remains busy gigging where he can and writing along the way. Some music from his side project SUPER HOT GLUE GUN has been featured in TV series such as ABC’s Grown-ish and Hulu's How I Met Your Father. To celebrate the release of The Misery County Line, Matt has two release shows planned: October 10th, 2025 at Happy Dog in Cleveland and November 15th, 2025 at Bar Lubitsch in Los Angeles.
